Steel to China
New Zealand’s first export order of steel billet to China has been arranged by New Zealand Steel, Ltd. Totalling more than 15,000 tonnes, the sale was negotiated through Ferrostaal A.G., a West German firm specialising in international steel marketing, which has previously arranged orders for New Zealand Steel. Production of the order is expected to take five weeks and will help maintain the company’s Glenbrook mill at full capacity. The billets are scheduled for shipment later this year and will be used in China for the manufacture of reinforcing bars.
