Nuclear deal with China
Sir,—As someone who supports peace and who is opposed to nuclear expansion, I was horrified to learn of a recent ChineseAmerican deal. The Americans have agreed to supply the Chinese with the technology for establishing nuclear power plants. What is of concern is that the Chinese have refused to sign a non-proliferation agreement in respect of nuclear energy. This can only mean that the Chinese intend to develop nuclear weaponry. It appears that it is all right to oppose American nuclear ships here as part of our defence package, but wrong to oppose sister city links with a nation that is developing nuclear armaments ready for the attack. — Yours, etc., R. C. JOHNSON. May 27, 1984.
