Erikson withdraws

Diane Erikson, the former New Zealand champion, has withdrawn from the Canterbury badminton team to contest the Wisden Cup national championships in Hamilton over Queen’s Birthday weekend. She has pulled out of the team through illness. Her place will be taken by Rosey Askew, who will be competing in her fourth Wisden Cup event Mrs Askew is not the dominating singles player Miss Erikson can be, and her form this season has not been

ling. However, she is a highly capable doubles player, who should strengthen the vital pairs section of the team. There has been a change to the draw for the tournament Canterbury will now begin with its match against the strong Waitemata team on Friday evening. It will meet North Shore on Saturday morning and Waikato that evening. Canterbury’s only match on Sunday is against the powerful Auckland team, and it will wrap up its programme with the tie against Wellington on Monday morning.
