An historic Gebbies Valley cottage was sold for $39,000 on Wednesday, May 23. The ,4ha (one acre) property in McQueens road included a large workshop which was once the Gebbies Valley School. The two-bedroomed country cottage still had its original furnishings in some rooms, with renovation and restoration partly completed. The auctioneer was Mr Rod Cameron, of Wrightson N.M.A. About 24 people attended the sale. A two-year-old house on a 64 perch, double, landscaped section at 24 Dunbarton Street, Redwood, was passed in at auction on Wednesday, for $144,000. The architecturally designed house, with four bedrooms, three living rooms, two bathrooms, rumpus room and double garage with remote controlled doors had a 1980 paper valuation of $62,000. A two-bedroomed, upstairs flat at 58 Papanui road sold for $45,000 on Thursday. The property, with lounge, two bedrooms, roomy kitchen, single garage and full length sun terrace had a government valuation (1979) of $17,200. About 15 people attended the auction, the auctioneer, Mr Hugh Morrison, of Dalgety Crown, said. A cottage at 26 Shakespeare Road, in Sydenham, was passed in at auction on Wednesday for $24,000. The 26.6 perch property, with three bedrooms, kitchen-dinette and lounge, had a GV (1979) of $12,500. Furniture and effects were included in the sale of the well-planted property. Private negotiations were continuing, the auctioneer, Mr N. H. McCrostie, said.
