Railways programme
A special edition of Radio Rhema’s railway interest programme, “Railways and Friends,” will be broadcast at 1.45 p.m. tomorrow. The programme will include a special report on this year’s rail history festival, held nationally by participating rail societies during May. Several rail stories originating from the North Island will be included for the first time, and a report will be
given on the restoration of the 112-year-old steam locomotive “Peverel” by the Ferrymead Railway Society. Also, an item will be included on the recommissioning of a “Kitson” steam locomotive after four years restoration by the Tramway and Historical Society at Ferrymead. The chairman of the Christchurch Transport Board, Mr Pat Neary, will give an account of the train’s history.
