Roimin works well at Hastings training
Special correspondent Hastings Roimin, Brazen Fellow and Some Bird revelled in the very wet and slushy conditions in training at Hastings yesterday and could be seen to advantage at Masterton tomorrow if similar conditions apply. Rain fell steadily throughout the session, making the plough slushy and the grass tracks heavy. Roimin was working strongly on the inner of his stablemate, Tallboy, at the end of 800 m on the No 1 grass in 52.1 s the final 600 in 38.2.
Some Bird and Brazen Fellow worked together over 800 metres on the plough in 50.25 s the fest 600
in 37.35. Both appeared to handle the conditions well. Sky Beau was in the usual good form on the track when galloping 1000 m on his own in Imin 4s the last 600 in 37.65. He is entered for both Masterton and Rotorua. Although no firm decision has been made his owner-trainer, Des Connolly, has a slight preference for Rotorua. Rich Rogue and Now Lass clocked Imin 19.6 s for 1200 m on the plough, the last 800 in 52.4 s and final 600 in 38.65. Dark Turbo registered one of the fastest times of the morning when he sprinted 600 m on the plough in 36.65. Vesper took 50.1 s for
800 m, the last 600 in 36.955. She finished third in the Betts Handicap* at Masterton last year and could go a bold race in the same race tomorrow. Any rain will enhance her chances. Uhero and Thunderchild were schooled over nine battens, with Uhero going for his hurdling ticket. They jumped the first three together but Uhero took off far too soon at the fourth fence and dislodged rider, Stephen Carey. Thunderchild went on and jumped the remaining five flights in good style.
Uhero, which was remounted and sent over a further five flights with Thunderchild, hit the top of the last fence but was still awarded his ticket.
