Wool firm at Auckland sale
PA Auckland Fleece was firm and second-shear hogget very firm at the Auckland wool sale yesterday, compared with prices at'Christchurch a week ago, according to an official report. Good and average to good second-shear was down 2% per cent to 5 per cent. Average to poor short oddments were generally firm. Principal buyers were New Zealand mills, with support from the Far East and Eastern Europe. On offer was 19,033 bales of new season greasy wool, plus 7900 bales of Wool Board stock, of which 3900 bales were offered yesterday with the rest being valued in Auckland but to be sold later.
The Auckland offering was 4 per cent fleece, 77 per cent second-shear, 4 per cent lambs’, 12 per cent short oddments and 3 per cent miscellaneous types. The adjusted weighted average sale price was 295.07 c a kilogram. Based
on this, a Government supplementary payment of 8.4 per cent will apply to all wool sold at the sale and all wool sold privately from midnight May 17 to midnight last night. The market indicator was 295 c.
