Foreigners to pay more at hospitals
A stay in Christchurch public hospitals will cost overseas visitors more from June 1. The finance committee of the Canterbury Hospital Board yesterday recommended higher daily rates for non-New Zealanders at all except its country hospitals.
Standard charges at the four biggest city hospitals will jump $l9 to $275 a day. Increases in charges at other board institutions ranged from $2.50 to $lO, except at country hospitals where the daily rate will drop $l7 to $167. The board’s medical superintendent-in-chief Dr Ross Fairgray, said the number of foreigners who fell into the last category was “infinitely small.”
