Former M.P. selected
PA Tauranga The former Hunua member of Parliament, Mr Winston Peters, has become the National Party candidate for Tauranga in this year’s General Election. Mr Peters, aged 38; an Auckland solicitor, defeated four other candidates on the first ballot to win the nomination. It was his second attempt to get back into Parliament since losing the Hunua seat in 1981 to Labour’s Mr Colin Moyle. Mr Peters is married with two children. The present member of Parliament for Tauranga and Minister of Customs Mr Allen, was not at the selection meeting. Four other National Party members of Parliament attended.
