General forecast: A large anti-cyclone covering the Tasman Sea is spreading east-ward on to New Zealand. Fine, but a few isolated showers in Northland and in some coastal places from Gisborne to Wairarapa, and in southern Fiordland and about Foveaux Strait. District forecasts: Canterbury: Fine, with moderate north-easterlies and fresh south-westerlies about the western high country.

Nelson, Marlborough: Fine, with light winds: mild. Buller, Westland: Cloudy at first, but becoming fine; moderate southerlies predominating; fine. Tomorrow: Fine.
