$1M more for sport and recreation

PA Wellington Sport and recreation activities will receive more than $5 million from lottery profits — about $1 million more than last year. Included was the $300,000 going to the Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association announced last week, said the member of Parliament for Horowhenua, Mr G. W. F. Thompson. He chaired the Lottery Board’s meeting when it decided on lottery profit allocations for 1984-85 totalling almost $lB million. The Sports Foundation will receive $530,000 — up $210,000.

The board increased its grant to the Water Safety Council by $45,000 to $540,000, to Surf Lifesaving by $32,000 to $252,000, and the Mountain Safety Council by $35,000 to $360,000 and to the Council for Recreation and Sport by $4OOO to $139,000. A further $165,000 was allocated for special projects in recreation and sport — up $50,000. “We also made large allocations in two areas where there is a substantial element of support for the creation and improvement of sporting venues,” Mr Thompson said.

The Local Authorities Community Facilities Fund was increased by $250,000 to $2 million and the Community Facilities at Schools Scheme was boosted to $l.l million, an increase of $50,000, he said.
