Soviet-VW deal?
The Soviet Union has approached Volkswagen about possible licences to produce VW diesel engines which might be used in Sovietbuilt Moskvichcars. However, no negotiations have yet taken place, according to VW, and there is
no sign of an agreement so far. VW has also begun negotiations with China to assemble Santanas in Shanghai. Santana saloons are already being built in Japan in conjunction with the Nissan Motor Corporation.
