Mixed bag of animated films
The Canterbury Film Society will screen a mixed bag of eight animated films next week: “Little Island” (U.K., 1958, 33min), in which three men land on a small deserted island. One believes in Truth, one in Goodness and one in Beauty.
“Rapunzel” (U.S.A., 1981, lOmin), is the classic tale of the beautiful maiden with long, golden tresses, who is isolated in a tower by a witch.
“Canary” (U.K., 1958, lOmin), in its imagination, leaves its cage. It is finally happy to return to its cage when it realises the problems outside.
“A Sufi Tale” (Canada, 1981, 9min), in which the inhabitants of a village find a large object growing in their fields — something they have never seen before.
“Le Diamant” (France, 1971, 9min), tells of an unscrupulous traveller (technological man) who arrives
at an oasis (primitive culture) rich in raw materials (the diamond). “Ah - We Humans” (U.S.A., 1980, lOmin), in a primitive tribal setting, shows how people react when confronted with behaviour patterns different from their own. "Monotaro, the Peach Boy” (18min), is found by an elderly couple in a peach and is brought up as their son, and becomes the strongest boy in the village. “Parallel Line” (N.Z.N.F.U., 1981, 7min), follows the evolution of life in New Zealand, from the Earth’s beginnings to the arrival of the Maoris. The programme will be screened at University Room Al, Ham, on Tuesday, and the Museum Theatrette, Rolleston Avenue, on Wednesday, both at 7.30 p.m. Membership may be bought at the door, and' the public is welcome for, a nominal entrance donation.
