Rat poison in food threatened
NZPA-AAP London A group campaigning for animal rights has threatened to inject rat poison into eggs and meat on supermarket shelves, “The Guardian” reports. Syringes containing a brand of rat poison had been found in four London supermarket freezers last week after letters were sent to several newspapers, it said. The rat poison solution was not strong enough to kill but could have made people violently ill. “The Sun” reported that the anonymous letter which had led the police to the syringes had said, “there is a possibility that we have injected poison into the battery eggs and factory meat products at the above addresses. “You have three months from now to stop eating them and in turn being responsible for the terrible existence that these animals lead.” The letter had said that if that was not done shoppers would “suffer the fate of the rat.”
