Mutton policy a ‘failure’
The Labour Party spokesman on trade and industry, Mr M. K. Moore, said the recent decision to render down 6000 tonnes of mutton showed the failure of producing and marketing policies.
The New Zealand taxpayer had paid supplementary minimum prices on mutton that would now be used to feed sheep. He said the mutton should be put on the New Zealand market, so that local consumers could buy it. The decision showed the need to find new markets and new ways of selling products, he said.
