Voluntary unionism comment
Parliamentary reporter
Timaru was an appropriate place in which to comment on voluntary unionism, the Minister of Labour, Mr Bolger, told an electorate meeting of the National Party at Timaru last evening.
His audience would be aware, he said, of the difficulties that a Timaru journalist, Mr D. W. Hodge, had experienced in exercising his right under the law to withdraw from the Journalists’ Union.
A key issue in the 1984
General Election would be credibility and two key Labour policies — promoting a bill of rights and reintroducing compulsory unionism —were in direct conflict with each other, Mr Bolger said.
