13 killed on roads

PA Wellington A senior Customs Department official and his wife were among 13 people killed on New Zealand’s roads since Thursday evening. Eleven were killed during the worst week-end this year. The previous highest week-end toll since the beginning of the year was eight dead during the weekend of March 30 to April 2. The Ministry of Transport said the road toll for the year at 262 was officially 46 higher than the corresponding time last year. Two persons were killed and two injured in a headon collision between two cars on State highway 1, 2km south of Dunsandel last evening. All of the dead and injured persons are believed to be males. One of the two injured persons is believed to have serious injuries, and the other moderate injuries.
