P.M.’s opponents ‘totally ignorant’

NZPA staff correspondent Washington The Prime Minister, Sir Robert Muldoon, visiting Washington for international trade talks, yester-

day accused his political opponents in New Zealand of being either “totally ignorant” or “deliberately trying to mislead the public.”

His comments came in response to a question on the 1.3 per cent rise in the April food price index. “My political opponents are multiplying that up on a full-year basis and getting something like 15 per cent," he said. “Either they’re totally ignorant of what makes the food price index move, or they’re deliberately trying to mislead the public—they can have their choice.” This was obviously not a movement that would continue month by month, Sir Robert said.
