PA Gisborne New Zealand’s canoeists could win all the events at the Olympics now that the Eastern bloc countries have pulled out, according to their coach, Brian Wilson. However the New Zealanders will compete against such nations at European regattas during their buildup tour prior to the Olympics. Mr Wilson said preparation would carry on as before. “The team is better prepared this year over-all. I think we are stronger and we can beat them in Europe.” “But we are disappointed. The Eastern bloc countries are so keen to win and we have been aiming to beat them. “We will carry on as before. You don’t train for four years, then pack it all in,” he said.
