Trawler crews travel home on cruise ship

The Russian passenger vessel Priamurye will sail for Vladivostok later today after exchanging crews from four fishing trawlers. The Russian crew change, which is becoming a familiar sight at Lyttelton, involved about 600 fishermen. The Priamurye, a 4871-ton cruise ship owned by the Far Eastern Snipping Company, is making her second call at Lyttelton. She first called in January, last year, ferrying crew replacements. She has a crew of 121 and normally carries tourists round Asia. The vessel was built in 1960, has a cruising speed of 17.5 knots and can carry 260 passengers. She is equipped with the usual cruise ship amenities such as a swimming pool, bars and saloons. After completing crew transfers for the stern trawlers Akmolynsk, Kalinovo, Kremen and Pirit, the Priamurye will sail for Vladivostok at about 3 p.m. The trip takes 16 days. Small-boat forecast Today’s inshore marine forecast from Lyttelton Harbour to the Waimakariri River mouth, as received from the Weather Office last evening: 15-knot north-easterlies, prevailing with mainly slight seas.
