Swimming pool fencing
Sir,—l argue for the fencing of private pools. We have a pool in our back yard that is well fenced off from the rest of the section. Not only does this give me peace of mind when I have visitors with small children, or when we go on holiday knowing that even if a child does enter our property it will not be able to get to the pool, but also I can control the swimming time of family and friends. The cost for us to fence our pool was ?200 to ?300 and I consider this a very small amount if it saves one child’s life. The argument that parental supervision should be better could be valid, but mothers often have more than one child to supervise and have not got eyes in the back of their heads. The fencing of a private pool would certainly alleviate one more of life’s hazards for which mothers have to watch. — Yours, etc., (Mrs) C. J. TONG. May 10, 1984.
