Rhema decision reserved
PA Auckland The Broadcasting Tribunal has reserved its decision in Auckland after hearing evidence presented by Radio Rhema in support of its claim that it should be given the authority to go on the air in Auckland permanently. Two Auckland private commercial stations, Radio I and Radio Pacific, objected to the application on the ground that Rhema, a non-commercial Christian station, would threaten an already overcrowded Auck-
land radio market. Radio Rhema has been waiting since December, 1981, for a hearing to apply for a permanent licence to broadcast from Auckland with relays to Hamilton, Tauranga, and Whangarei. At present Rhema broadcasts from Christchurch with relays to Nelson and Wellington. The Christchurch station does not rely on advertising revenue and neither would the Auckland station. Rhema is supported by an organisation with more than 16,000 financial members.
