Approved price rises listed

PA Wellington Some brands of footwear, blankets, rugs, carpets and oil-refined products are among price rises approved by the Trade and Industry Department in the last two weeks.

Footwear prices from the Bata Company N.Z., Ltd, are rising by an average of 3.4 per cent, ranging from 0.8 per cent to 9.2 per cent.

The increases are to recover leather costs, the general wage order and import costs.

In a statement outlining details of the approved rises, the department said Alliance Textiles (N.Z.) Ltd, was increasing prices for blankets and rugs by 18.6 per cent to recover increased wool and labour costs, and manufacturing overheads.

Oil refined products for Mobil N.Z., Ltd, will rise an average of 5.6 per cent to recover cost increases. The department said the in-

creases ranged to 87 per cent. The large increases related to items last priced three years ago. The Dairy Board’s VHT “Town Milk” will also rise an average of 10.2 per cent.

U.E.B. Industries Bremworth carpets will go up 3.5 per cent. The department said it had cleared 36 notifications of price rises during the two weeks to May 2 and had 114 on hand.

It had begun three investigations, had 23 on hand and had determined prices in two instances. Details of the notifications cleared or approved during the two weeks to May 2 are: U.E.B. Industries, Ltd: scouring charges (Awatoto plant): 5.67 per cent, recovery of cost increases. Last price increase October, 1981. N.Z. Forest Products, Ltd: MF bleached fluff pulp: 13.8 per cent on a specific pulp product, recovery of cost increases. Parity with export prices.

General Food Snack Products, Ltd: various snack products: 3.6 per cent, recovery of cost increases. N.Z. Forest Products, Ltd: unbleached and bleached kraft paper: 11.1 per cent, recovery of cost increases. Feltex Industries, Ltd: braids, braided elastics, woven and knitted elastics, curtain tapes, laces, seat belt webbing, industrial webbing, woven tapes and webs: 7.8 per cent — recovery of cost increases.

NX. Glass Manufacturers’ Co: 285 ml “glasswrapp” bottle: 3.6 per cent, recovery of cost increases.

Drake Personnel (N.Z.) Ltd, temporary nursing services, 2.62 per cent — temporary office staff, 3.52 per cent — recovery of cost increases. U.E.B. Industries: Bremworth carpets: 3.5 per cent — recovery of cost increases. McKenzie and Ridley, Ltd: steam plant equipment, dairy factory machinery industrial maintenance services: 15.73 per cent — recovery of cost increases.

1.C.1. Tasman (N.Z.), Ltd: animal health products and industrial disinfectants; 8.4 per cent (average) — increases in overheads, packaging materials. Significant imported cost increases on certain products. Increases range from 0.1 per cent to 30.6 per cent (one item only).
