London exhibition

The Royal Over-Seas League will hold its annual Commonwealth Art Exhibition in London in early September. A selection of New Zealand paintings will be forwarded to London. The London exhibition is for young artists under the age of 35 for whom cash awards totalling some 800 pounds sterling will be given. Entries are open to artists from any Commonwealth country. A New Zealand exhibition will be held in Christchurch from Tuesday, July 3, to Friday, July 6, to choose the works which will be included in the London viewing and to qualify for local cash awards. Admission is free. The New Zealand exhibition will carry awards of $350 in the under 35 classification, and $lOO in the Open Section, but only those paintings in the first category will be eligible for selection for forwarding to London. The New Zealand adjudicator will be Mrs Doris Holland, President of the

Canterbury Society of Arts, Christchurch. This exhibition is part of the practical projects undertaken by the Royal OverSeas League to encourage art and music atnohg young Commonwealth citizens. Works may be submitted in oils, water colour or

mixed media, and the size of the paintings is limited to 120 cm x 90cm, excluding the frame which must be of light construction with a maximum depth of 2cm in the mould. Further details are available from P.O. Box 318, Christchurch.
