Patients may wait

The management of the Canterbury Hospital Board will meet this morning to consider whether to postpone the admission of nonurgent patients to four Christchurch hospitals which are having problems with linen supplies because of an industrial dispute. Staff at the board’s centralised laundry at Sunnyside Hospital have banned overtime in an effort to convince the board that more staff should be ap-

pointed to the laundry. The ban has led to linen rationing at seven hospitals. The board’s deputy chief executive, Mr Bill Watson, said last evening that the rationing would continue and the management would meet first thing today to consider postponing surgical admissions for May 10 and 11 at Burwood Hospital, Christchurch Hospital, Christchurch Women’s Hospital and Princess Margaret Hospital.
