Godavari leased to N.I. stud
By
J. J. BOYCE
Mr Ted Howarth, the owner of the Woodleigh Stud at Waikanae, had a double-edged interest in the result of the Gosford Gold Cup, won by the Trenthamtrained Fountaincourt, last week. Fountaincourt is by Pass The Bottle, a son of Round Table imported by Mr Howarth. Godarchi, a close second to Fountaincourt in the Gosford Gold Cup, was sired by Godavari, which has been leased by Mr Howarth and
will join the stallion bank at the Woodleigh Stud soon. Godavari, an Irish-bred son of Red God, was imported by Mr Roger Swolf, of Templeton, but had scant patronage from broodmare owners when placed at stud in Canterbury, and was leased to an Australian stud. With few opportunities he came up with Little Brown Jug, winner of the New Zealand Two Thousand Guineas, and the sharp sprinter Indigod, but he had moved on to Australia before his potential was realised.
