Junior moto-cross
About 80 riders, one of them aged only 11, will compete in the New Zealand junior motocross championships at Sefton this week-end. The championships are being held in the South Island for the first time after four previous national meetings in the North Island. Among the southern riders expected to perform best are Callum Reid, aged 11, the South Island champion in the
80 cu cm under-12 class, Mark Thorpe (Christchurch), the South Island champion in the 80 cu cm over-12 class, and Wayne Marfell (Blenheim), in the 125 cu cm class for 12 to 16-year-olds. The top North Island contenders include Simon Mahoney (Taihape), under 12 years, 80 cu cm, and Rodney Jones (Wellington), 12 to 16 years, 125 cu cm.
