Constant refinement in image and expansion
As with V.C.R.S, video cameras have undergone constant refinement in image and expansion in capability in the last few years. The latest models have such sophisticated features as power zoom lens, ultrasonic auto focus, electronic view finder, electronic stop watch, stereo sound and alpha-numeric capabilities. The latter capability enables the time and date of filming to be recorded on tape. Whereas models of just one year ago were made to operate in average illumination of 100 lux, the new ones can function down to 25 lux. Successful filming can, therefore, be achieved even
in a dimly-lit room. The new-breed video camera is also lightweight. The Sony Betamovie BMC 100 P, for example, weighs just 2.5 kg, and is the same size as a Super-8 camera. For home-movie making, however, a basic-function camera is perfectly adequate. The cost of such a camera may be from $9OO to $l2OO-$l3OO. For more serious filmmaking, a camera with the extra features required will cost about $2200. The top price may be up to $4500. Portapaks of camera, video recorder and battery charger, enable recording “on location.” These are priced at about $3OOO.
