Nuclear arms

Sir, — The statement by the member of Parliament for Selwyn, Miss Ruth Richardson (May 3) is politically motivated double-speak in response to the declaration of. the Akaroa and Malvern County Councils that their areas are nuclear-free zones. Miss Richardson labels the actions of the councils as superfluous, and calls for a moral lead. The moral lead is already there at the local body level and it is time for the Government to back its words with action by banning visits by nuclear ships. Instead, the anti-nuclear lobby has been insulted by terms such as “sucker tucker,” “destructive” and now “superfluous.” — Yours, etc., JOHN SUMMERS. May 3, 1984.
