1920s star dies
The actress, May McAvoy, who played Al Jolson’s girlfriend in the first feature-length talkie, “The Jazz Singer,” in 1927, has died at the age of 82. Miss McAvoy’s credits also included Ramon Navarro’s silent film classic, “Ben Hur,” and “The Enchanted Cottage” with Richard Barthelmess.
