Legionnaires Disease
A case of the sometimes fatal Legionnaires Disease has been reported in Christchurch. It is the first reported case since November last year. Dr M. A. Brieseman, the Deputy Medical Officer of Health, said last evening that no further information was available at this stage. Five cases of Campylobacter were also reported in
the week ending Saturday, May 5. There were three cases of varying forms of hepatitis and’ two of sal-
monella. One case of malaria was also reported. Dr Brieseman said that the victim was a traveller from overseas who had returned with the disease. “It should be a warning to others going overseas to countries with malaria to take precautions,’’ he said.
