Forestry Council
A Labour Government would appoint a representative of the environmental movement to the New Zealand Forestry Council.
Labour’s spokesman on forests, Mr T. K. Burke, said the Government had blundered by not providing for the widest possible representation on the council. The council monitors and reports to the Government
and the forestry sector on production and environment matters. The council as it stood did not reflect a wide variety of opinions in commercial and non-commercial forestry, Mr Burke said. Labour would move as quickly as possible to redress the balance by giving the environmental, scientific, and recreational lobby a voice, he said.
