McDonald and CrawfordSmith, both 3 up after 14, held on for wins — McDonald winning four holes in a row on the front nine — and Neil Reid won 16 and 17 to score a vital win for Canterbury over the left-handed George Drury. Neither Donaldson nor Ricky Vincent were at their best, Donaldson holding on to a one-hole advantage to
the finish, and lan Bourke’s consistency on the back nine gave him the edge over Graeme Gunn. Results (Canterbury names first) were: Saturday M. G. Brown lost to M. Perks, 2 down; P. J. Heasley lost to T. Joseph, 3 and 2; R. M. Vincent beat G. Domigan, 5 and 3; J. D. Crawford-Smith halved with R. I. Donaldson; G. M. Gunn beat B. D. Petherick,
1 up; R. E. McDonald Peat 1. Bourke, 4 and 2; J. R. A. Parlane beat G. Drury, 5 and 3; N. S. Reid lost to S. C. Thompson, 3 and 2. Sunday Brown beat Joseph, 1 up; Heasley lost to Perks, 5 and 3; Vincent lost to Donaldson, 1 down; Crawford-Smith beat Domigan, 2 and 1; Gunn lost to Bourke, 3 and 2; McDonald beat Petherick, 2 and 1; Parlane lost to Thompson, 5 and 4; Reid beat Drury, 2 and 1.
