Pensioner slashed car tyres
PA Auckland An Auckland pensioner, Leopold John Henry Peck, thought the traffic department was doing nothing about illegal parking so, for eight months, he slashed tyres on 33 vehicles and left notes under their windscreen wipers, the District Court at Auckland heard.
Peck, aged 66, of Owairaka, became obsessed with vehicles parking on grass verges and frontages by driveways near his home, said Senior-Sergeant Don Somerville yesterday. Peck pleaded guilty to 33 charges of wilful damage.
The court heard that between May 25, 1983, ’ and January 28 this year, Peck had stabbed a total of 89 tyres on 33 vehicles with a sharpened screwdriver. If considered, compensation would amount to $2996, Senior-Sergeant Sommerville said.
Judge McLean convicted Peck and adjourned the case to June 6 for a proba-
tion report and sentence.
