Big fencing camp

The Canterbury University Fencing Club will hold the third South Island under 20 fencing camp at the Christchurch Polytechnic Memorial Hall over three days next week. The camp, which will last from Monday to Wednesday, is the third co-ordinated by the University club which boasts some of the top young fencers in Canterbury.

Last year more than 60 fencers attended the training camp, but numbers have been restricted to 40 this year to allow coaches to

teach more advanced techniques. Among the participants will be some from Nelson and Dunedin.

Two senior fencers, Mr Alan Bunn and Mr Vic Manuge, have been provided by the Canterbury Provincial Amateur Fencing council to present the sometimes neglected disciplines of epee and foil.

The camp will involve training from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day with a rules equipment revision session on the Monday evening and a prize-giving on Wednesday evening.
