Labour ‘must choose’

PA Auckland The Labour Party will have to choose between A.N.Z.U.S. and an antinuclear stand, the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, has said. “Dr Michael Bassett and others hope for a renegotiated A.N.Z.U.S. that will be compatible with a nuclearfree New Zealand,” a campaign spokesman, Mrs Marie Leadbeater, said.

However, Labour would find it had to make a choice between the A.N.Z.U.S. alliance and its anti-nuclear stand, she said. “Peace-minded New Zealanders must help it make the right choice,” she said. The campaign had written to the Labour Party supporting its commitment to legislate for a nuclearfree New Zealand.
