Chambers told to take lead
PA Wellington The Chambers of Commerce must regain the leadership role in commerce, trade and industry, the retiring president of the New Zealand Chambers of Commerce, Mr David Graham told their annual conference yesterday. Mr Graham, in an address to chamber members in Invercargill, said this was the most important task facing the New Zealand Chambers of Commerce. “One of our prime objectives is to create public debate, awareness and community involvement to promote a better informed public of business and
the acceptance of a market economy,” Mr Graham said. He said there had been a 17 per cent rise in membership during his term in office. “Furthermore our movement plans to double membership by 1986 and so be better placed to represent the wide spectrum of commercial interests that only the Chamber of Commerce can attract.” Mr Graham said the chamber movement is able to maintain close liaison with the worldwide chamber network and assist in the flow of information and trade opportunities and contacts. y $
