New shipping service
The Anzecs lines (Overseas Containers, Ltd, Seabridge New Zealand, Ltd, and The Shipping Corporation of New Zealand, Ltd) and ACT-ANL announce significant changes to their joint schedules in the services provided between New Zealand and UK/north continental and
Mediterranean ports. A new weekly North European service covering U.K. and north continent: All northbound cargo to U.K. and north continent will be carried direct from New Zealand to these areas. Southbound cargo will be carried to New Zealand, omitting Mediterranean
ports, to provide faster transit times. A separate fortnightly Mediterranean service covering the existing port range in this region, with the addition of Barcelona as a direct call. Vessels in this service will not proceed to north European destinations. A spokesman for the lines said that the new services reflect changing trading patterns and shipper requirements by providing a more frequent and regular service. The increased regularity of sailings will enable shippers to plan ahead with certainty, and reduce stock build-up to minimum. By creating a new Mediterranean service, the lines are providing additional space and increased export facilities to this important growth area.
The new services are expected to commence in late May.
