Labour’s policy welcomed
PA Wellington Labour’s policy on environmental planning would give the ordinary citizen a “fighting chance,” according to the Native Forests Action Council. The provisions for legal aid, for changes to the planning tribunal and its terms of reference, and for repeals of the National Development Act would all help citizens affected by development projects, said the council’s president, Ms Gwenny Davis, commenting on the policy released at the week-end by the Labour leader, Mr Lange. Ms Davis also welcomed the announcement that Labour would create a ministry for the environment, including a division for nature conservation.
