Go-slow delays N.Z. exports
PA Auckland An Australian waterside workers’ go-slow is playing havoc with some Tasman cargo movements and delaying thousands of tonnes of New Zealand export cargoes. New Zealand’s first multi-million-dollar kiwifruit export cargo to Europe may not be loaded on the Australian Venture at the end of the week because the ship has been delayed in Australia. Associated Container Transportation, Ltd, agent for the Australian Venture, had' three container ships at Australian ports, said its
assistant general manager in New Zealand, Mr David Gill, yesterday. Australian watersiders have not been working week-ends or during the Easter holiday break and container ships have banked up at Australian terminals. The Union Steam Ship Company, Ltd, said the Union Dunedin had been delayed at Melbourne and was due to sail yesterday, about three days late. The Shipping Corporation’s New Zealand Trader and the Australian National Line’s ship Darwin Trader, are in Melbourne and about* five days behind schedule.
