Arson at detectives’ offices
PA Auckland Avondale detectives have moved offices after a deliberately lit fire extensively damaged their building early Sunday morning. The fire, believed to have been started in rubbish, bags at the entrance to the C. 1.8. offices in the western suburb, caused thousands of dollars worth of damage. A neighbour saw the flames about 1 a.m. on Sunday but the premises were well ablaze before firemen arrived. The building will need a new roof. The police interviewed a committed patient from nearby Oakley Hospital in connection with the fire. She was later returned to the hospital but not charged with any offence.
