Study ‘in totality’
PA Wellington The Government will consider the report of the Commission of Inquiry into Broadcasting “in totality,” said the Prime Minister yesterday. Sir Robert Muldoon commented on criticism from the Broadcasting Corporation’s chairman, Mr lan Cross, that the commission had made a “quantum” leap from the terms of the inquiry to make “sweeping recommendations” on restructuring the corporation. At a post-Cabinet press conference, Sir Robert said that “a member of the commission responded to that
by pointing to part of the order of reference which in plain language says: “and anything else you can think of that’s worth while.” “So really this is just a little discussion between the two of them. “As far as ’ the Government is concerned it has the report in front of it in totality.” A special Cabinet committee has been set up to consider the report, but first it will be examined by a committee of officials. Sir Robert said it would take “some time” for the Cabinet committee to finish its deliberations as it was a wide-ranging report.
