‘Footrot Flats’ sold
PA Wellington The musical of Wai and the gang, “Footrot Flats,” has been sold in Australia by the New Zealand playwriters’ agency, Playmarket. An Australian entrepreneur, Mr John Manford, for Associated Producers, has bought the Western Australian rights to the show, making it the main overseas sale of a major production by Playmarket. The musical, from the book by Roger Hall with
music and lyrics by Philip Norman and A. K. Grant respectively, is based on the original comic strip characters by Murray Ball. The administrator of Playmarket, Miss Nonnita Rees, said that Mr Manford had bought the rights because he liked the show’s freshness, charm, and vigour. The Australian production of “Footrot Flats” is in rehearsal at the Playhouse Theatre in Perth, where it will open on May 12.
