Gaye’s estate
NZPA-AP Los Angeles ■ The estate of the soul singer. Marvin Gaye, may be insolvent, a lawyer for one of Mr Gaye's sons said yesterday. The value of the estate was still unknown, but creditors may be owed more than the estate is worth, a lawyer, Gerald Mehlman, told the Los Angeles County Superior Court Commissioner, Robert Blaylock. During the hearing, Mr Gaye’s son, Marvin Gaye 111, aged 18, represented by Mr Mehlmann, was named co-administrator of the singer’s estate with another lawyer, Joseph Karol. The Grammy Award-win-ning singer was shot and
killed on April 1, at the Los Angeles home he shared with his parents. His father. Marvin Gay. sen. was charged after the death. Mr Gay has since said he didn't know the gun used in the shooting was loaded. Mr Gaye, who added an "e” to the end of his family name, left no will. The honey-voiced singer won two Grammys for his 1982 hit, “Sexual Healing." Despite his success, Mr Gaye had financial problems and had filed for bankruptcy several years ago, just before the United States Internal Revenue Service told him he owed more than ?US2 million ($3.04 million) in back taxes.
