Elvis Costello to call
Elvis Costello will play in Christchurch for the first time next month. Tickets 'for his May 14 concert at the Town Hall will go on sale on Monday. Although Costello played in New Zealand several years ago, this would be his first South Island performance, said the Wellington promoter, Mr Stewart Macpherson, yesterday. Costello is now on a solo tour of the United States. He will perform with the Attractions for the New Zealand tour, which will begin in Auckland on May 12. They will play in Wellington the next night. After the Christchurch concert they will tour Australia and Japan. A lot of pressure had been usd to get Costello to the South Island — a planned Palmerston North concert had been abandoned in favour of the Christchurch show, Mr Macpherson said. The show would cover the whole range of Costello’s hits and would include material from the “Punch the Clock” album, he said.
