Cases of hijacked meat still missing
PA Auckland South Auckland detectives have asked police in the North Island to look out for a hijacked $98,000 consignment of export meat. They believe that the 500 cases of meat might have been taken out of Auckland but because of the size of the haul the thieves would have trouble hiding it. It would have had to have been kept refrigerated to stop it spoiling before it
could be disposed of. The thieves took a portable forkhoist and conveyor belt when they loaded the meat into a truck-trailer unit and took it from a transport depot in Wiri on Thursday night. The truck and trailer were found abandoned about 2km away and the police think the meat was transferred to another truck. However, they have, found no trace of it in checks around Auckland.
