This Mannesmann jumbo earthmoving machine is being used to fill in open-cast mine workings in Duisburg, West Germany. The jumbo moves up to 240,000 cubic metres of sand and gravel a day, the equivalent of 8000 railway waggons. The machine, designed and built by Mannesmann Demag, of West Germany, is more than 50 metres tall and 180 metres long.
