Opposition favours Hawke

NZPA-AAP Canberra An Australian opinion poll shows that for the ffirst time a majority of Liberal and National Party voters think Mr Bob Hawke is a better prime Minister than the Opposition Leader, Mr Andrew Peacock, could be. The latest Morgan-Gallup poll, published in the “Bulletin” magazine shows a clear 51 per cent of coalition voters favouring Mr Hawke for the Prime Minister’s job. Previously coalition supporters had fvoured Mr Hawke as Prime Minister but a lot of undecided responses had prevented a majority. There was no sign of Mr Hawke’s over-all popularity waning—his approval reating now stands at a record 75 per cnet, up one point. Of 2080 electors interviewed at the week-end of March 31 and April 7, only 33 per cent approved of Mr Peacock, down 1 per cent.
