Visits to pyramids banned

NZPA-Reuter Cairo The police have banned visits to the pyramids near Cairo after reports that a mysterious gas is leaking from one of the Pharaohs’ tombs, the daily newspaper, “Al Ahram” has reported. It said a group of tourists bad told the police that a colourless gas was gushing from the Khafra pyramid, causing eye inflammation and a feeling of suffocation. "Al Ahram” said that archaeologists could not determine immediately the nature of the gas. The pyramid stands next to the great pyramid of Cheops. Both served as tombs for the mummified bodies of Egyptian Pharaohs from the years 2680 B.C. to 2565 B.C.
