Inventive panhandlers

NZPA staff correspondent Washington Panhandlers in New York’s Bowery are an inventive lot. One has a sign saying, “I am raising ?1,000,000 for research on alcoholism. Please help.” Many wash car windows

at red lights (whether you like it or not) but on one rainy night recently one window-washer had a sign, “Due to inclement weather, we are not washing windows tonight. Contributions will be gratefully accepted. Contributions are tax-de-ductible.”
